Lessons and Carols

Our 3rd through 6th graders (and a few older students and adults) have been hard at work preparing their songs for the annual “Lessons and Carols” concert. We are excited to share this beautiful service with you on December 6 at 6:30 in the main sanctuary. Please have your student report to his or her classroom or homeroom teacher in the small chapel at 6:10 pm. The dress for this event is dressy casual; this includes slacks, button down shirts, dress shirts, polos or V-necks for the gentlemen, and dresses, skirts or pants for the ladies.  Please no jeans, shorts, t-shirts, or sweatshirts.  No hats, please. Christmas colors are optional.

“Lessons and Carols” is a service celebrating the birth of Jesus that is traditionally followed at Christmas.  The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus is told in nine short Bible readings from Genesis (read by various members of the Providence community), interspersed with the singing of Christmas hymns and choir music.

Finals Schedule

Our 9th – 12th graders are on a modified finals schedule for Thursday, Dec. 8 and Friday, Dec. 9. Students will still arrive at 8:00, and end of the day will still be 3:30. Here’s a link to the schedule.

After-school noise

Parents, if you are waiting to pick up your lower school-aged children at 2:55 in that area near the church office, we would appreciate your help in keeping the noise level to a minimum. Conversations with fellow parents are great, but that area is prone to a lot of noise, and sometimes the church secretaries even have difficulty talking on the office phone. So we’d appreciate you simply moving your conversations away from the office area, like to inside the chapel. Thanks for your help!

Christmas Parties Providence Style

While we enjoy celebrating Christmas together as a school, our celebration time is limited.  Lower school grades (PreK-4th) hold 30 minute parties at some time in the day on the last semester day designated by individual class teachers. Upper school (5th-12th grade students) celebrates through house lunchtime with a treat on Friday.  If you would like to help with your child’s Christmas celebration, please contact your child’s teacher or house leader.

First Home Game

Please come cheer on your Providence Rams at their first home game of the season Tuesday, November 29 at 6:30 as they take on Killeen Memorial. Students $2, adults $3. Butt ‘em, Rams!

Providence People Downtown Belton on Saturday, Dec. 3

You might be interested in the Belton Christmas on the Chisholm Trail Event on Saturday, December 3. Providence Logic/Rhetoric Choirs perform at 3:30 and Concordia performs at 4:30 on the Courthouse steps.

Daughters of the Republic of Texas Essay Contest

This is a great opportunity for our students in 4th and 7th grades to practice their writing skills and learn more about Texas history.  Check out this website http://www.drtinfo.org/education/essay-contests or if you have further questions, you may contact Patricia Cummins, our crossing guard, Providence parent, and a member of a local DRT chapter.

Fun Lunch and Ballet Shoes Book Party December 8th

We’re looking forward to our Ballet Shoes literary lunch celebration. We’ll play a few games together and recall the adventures of Pauline, Petrova and Posy Fossil.

Parent volunteers are still needed and appreciated.  Please contact annette.kemp@provprep.org.

Four Prayers for Your Children

This is a nice, brief article on praying for your children, based on Luke 2:52: “And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.” While the author has young children, it’s appropriate for families with children of all ages.
