“ProvFit” is the unofficial title of CrossFit ProvPrep, a program started in the fall of 2014 by CrossFit coaches Mitch and Mandy Hedderly. Officially affiliated with CrossFit shortly after its establishment, ProvFit has become an integral part of our school, attracting both student and staff participation. By offering a training modality that displaces a body-image centered fitness model and replaces it with a capability-centered methodology, the ProvFit program moves the participants’ focus from selfish vanity to a recognition of God as the masterful creator of a fearfully and wonderfully made biological machine.
With the expansion of other organized sports at Providence requiring more exclusive after-school use of the First Baptist Church gym facility, CrossFit Provprep will be relocating its training to a new site on George Wilson Road designed specifically for CrossFit training. Students who are enrolled in the after-school CrossFit program will have regular access to a wide array of exercise equipment such as indoor rowers, barbells with bumper plates, pull-up bars, gymnastic rings, etc. The site is nestled in nearly four acres of fairly well wooded terrain, lending itself to some great trail running opportunities as well. Construction on the site is due to be completed by mid fall of 2020.
